The Best Company

Mom and Dad always come up for the opening dove shoot and we always have a wonderful time. We took them to the fabulous Canyon Grill and we enjoyed their company as much as the delicious food.

My Mother and Father-in-law went with us. Ben was there too, but we all know how pictures of him turn out.

While the boys were hunting, the girls went went to a local ice cream store where they have these flying in front of the shop. It is quite the unique little area :)

(Yes, those are massive pink lace-textured panties flying on a pole)

Belle is a girl after my own heart. She loved this ice cream cone and was too cute while she was eating it.

I have the best mom and mother-in-law. I love that they love spending time together and are great friends. It makes for such pleasant visits - I actually have to fight for time with my parents when they come to visit. I really think when they come to "visit" me they really are coming to visit my in-laws!

I can't wait for the next visit!

Why I Don't Have Pictures of My Husband

Because he makes this face,

and this one,

and this one. Like father like son.

I am usually the one behind the camera, but I do try to slip in a few pictures here and there. Ben doesn't quite understand my desire to have pictures of us. His response is, "we have plenty of pictures of us". However, being the hard head that I am, I still try.

As you can see, my attempts are not successful. I have a plethora of pictures that look like these!

Catch Up

I have been super busy this month with a very large cookie order (more to come) and I haven't blogged about some of our previous events. It is about to be birthday party central around here and at my hometown in Georgia. These will involve precious cookies!

A few weeks ago, we all showed up at my in-law's house for a duo birthday party - 1 year old and a little bit older than that. Everyone always has such a good time at Grandma's and I love it because I get to play photographer.

I think we have some budding athletes in the crew!

Back to the reason for the family gathering - we had some important birthdays to celebrate! My father in law, who loves the movie Groundhog Day received this great golf club cover.

I think he liked it!

And this little guy turned the big 0-1!

His mom made these precious cakes with a jungle theme.

How cute are those?!?

I think he enjoyed the toy the most. He was prim and proper and ate his cake with a fork! I love it!

Remy the Rabid Retriever

I think as a puppy, Remy must have had an encounter with a 'coon because every time she sees the water hose, we have a serious case of Ol' Yeller.

This dog lives for water hoses. I honestly thought this was a phase, but no, dear Remy still trembles with excitement every time we walk in the direction of the water hose.

Can you tell this is a form of entertainment for me?
Now if we could just get her not to do this when she sees the chickens... I think we are going to have a major problem on our hands!

Growing Chicks and Newbies!

Are you there?!? I have been super busy with school and cookie making, so I have not had much time to blog.

The chicks are growing fast and they are almost ready to move out to the chicken coop. I can't wait to show you the pictures of the precious coop! Ben is doing a great job!

Since I am a slacker and have not posted any pictures, here are some pictures of the hens through their three weeks.

At four weeks these chickadees move out! They are stinkin' up my garage something fierce!

Unfortunately, I think I only have 7 hens. That means 10 roosters.
Roosters = no eggs = moving off the farm.
The man that we got the eggs from is hopefully going to take the roosters and a couple of hens so I will just have 4 or 5 of these little ladies.

There is starting to be a big difference in the looks department between the boys and girls. Their colors are really starting to change.
Here is a boy and a girl.

The girl is the dark one on the left, and the boy has more defined stripes and is a little lighter.

This is a little rooster. His feathers are beautiful and you can really see his pattern coming through.

You can also see his comb starting to turn red.

Ok. I think I may have a chicken problem.... I got MORE chickens. I have been planning to do this all along. I want to have a variety of chickens so I got a few more and I will have to wait to see how many are hens of those too. They are the cutest chicks in the world. They look like little chipmunks. I took a little day trip to Tennessee and picked them up from a sweet woman who sells over three thousand chickens a year! That's a lot of chicks! She ended up giving me a couple since we couldn't tell if they were girls or boys.

There are two different breeds - Welsummers and Ameraucanas. The Welsummer chicks look like chipmunks and the Ameraucana ones are darker.

There is one chipmunky Ameraucana. However, she is claimed and now named "Chirpie". Lillie came to visit one afternoon and she fell in love with her.

These chicks will lay chocolate brown and blue eggs! I can't wait to eat and cook with eggs from by back yard!

As you have seen before on here, I have been making some cookies here and there. I love making the cookies. They are my little works of art.

Sadly, my cookie "business" had no name.

I needed to come up with something quick because I wanted to donate some cookies to an auction that was being held at one of the schools close by. My high school does an auction similar to this one, so I knew I had to enter something - small schools are near and dear to my heart and I love to do anything I can to help. I was thrilled that they would take cookies from some no name for their auction! (And I selfishly hoped I could drum up a little business :) )

However, I am no longer a no name! We have a name! I am now The Cookie Jar and I even have some snazzy business cards and stickers that my lovely husband transferred from my head to the computer then printed. (This is where the graphic designer husband comes in mighty handy!!)

I made two cookie baskets for the auction. The first was an all boy basket.

Of course it had to have tractors,

tools,

and heavy equipment.

Complete with tiara (with sparkles, of course),

cupcakes,

and balloons.

I hope someone was as excited to get these as I was to give them. I felt like I was sending my kids off to their first day of school.

I am gearing up for some more cookie making. And when I say more I mean more!! Big order coming up and I am so excited!

It's Official!

I'm a chicken mommy!
We are proud to say that we now are the proud parents of 19 baby chicks.

We had about half of the eggs hatch, and unfortunately, we have lost three along the way.

One of those was one of our four "special chicks", dubbed Leonard. Of course, Ben came up with this name. He couldn't walk straight and turned in circles when he tried to walk. Ben thought it was quite humorous. Me, not so much! We still have one Leonard that is not walking well, but the other two chicks, with the help of a bandaid, are doing great.

This little lady had a non responsive leg when she was born, but now she is walking like a champ.

Of course, we aren't going to keep all of these chicks. My coop is pretty large, but I think it will max out at 15 or 16 chickens. I would like to have several different breeds, so I will only keep 5 or 6 of these babies.

I have found that you can tell by some of their markings if they are males or females. I don't know how accurate this is, but they are supposed to be girlies if they have dark legs.

I think this little chica, is in fact, a chica! I think!

Also during my research, I discovered that I think my Dominique chickens may be Barred Rocks. They are confused often, and I think my chicken man may have been confused!!

So my little ones are six days old, very messy, loud, and have already moved out of the house! They now reside in the garage. Those little independent chickies!
