Music City!

My dearest friend, Georgia, got married this past weekend and it was absolutely perfect. A few weeks ago, we celebrated with a bachelorette weekend in Nashville. I have been to Nashville once before, but I did not experience the city last time I went. Well, we experienced it this time! It was a blast and if you have never been, pack your bags and go! Who doesn't love a town where you can go downtown and listen to live music 24/7? It was such a fun town and I can't wait to go back and take Ben along with me!

Some of the crew at the yummy breakfast.

Afterward, pedicures all around!

We had lingerie,

and little black books,

and a fabulous dinner at yummy Jimmy Kellys!

What a fun weekend! Congrats, Jo!!

P.S. Look at the beautiful bride and her mom and sis! Gorgeous!!

Dogs and Dogs

As I mentioned before, my mom helped me make over two hundred cookies for my friend, Georgia's, wedding. I was a little worried about getting them all done in a timely manner since my oven in my house is about 1'x1'. Therefore, I did some pro bono catering helping and forced mom into destroying her kitchen in return! Good deal, huh?!?

We made dogs (a Maltese for Georgia's Oliver),

and more dogs (a Labrador for Josh's Buster).

We rolled,

and cut,

and cut,

and cut some more!

See those big pans? Those were key in making two hundred cookies. Where I would have been able to cook two at a time in my tiny oven, we could cook many more in mom's!

And let me return to this picture.
This is what happens when you eat too many cookies.

Your cookie belly gets quite the dusting.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and cookies are decorated, laid out, and ready to be packaged!

And on top of the cake that my mom also made!

We had such a good time doing these and I can't wait for my next cookie adventure!

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Happy, Happy Birthday to the best mom in the entire world!

It is my sweet Mom's birthday today and I am sad I won't be there to celebrate with her. My mom is the most loving and thoughtful person in the world. She puts up with a lot from me and I don't tell her nearly enough how much I appreciate everything she does for me. Over the past couple of weeks, she helped me ice over 200 cookies. Now, that's love!!

I don't know what I would do without you! I love you so much!

I'm back!

I have kind of fallen off the blogger bandwagon, but I really am going to get back on. Our internet was down for a while and I got out of the habit, but I am back and all ready to update frequently! I have been getting some not so nice comments since my last post was about St. Patrick's Day!

So back on the farm, we have had a little excitement that I thought was blogworthy. We have been having TONS of rain. Great for the grass, not so great for our mountainous terrain. We were missing a baby cow (more like a teenager) and we knew something was wrong when the mom was mooing on one area and would not leave. Ben walked around and finally found the cow. In a sink hole. It was huge and I took my camera to the hole and documented the chain of events fabulously. However, I had my aperture wide open and they all look like this:

(That would be a big blank white nothing.)

Thankfully, Ben took a picture of the cow in the hole with his cell phone. It really doesn't do the hole justice because you can't see how deep it is. Ben was able to put his whole body in it and his head was even with the ground.

We had the truck ready to pull the cow out, but thankfully all she needed was a little lift in the rear and she could pull up with her front feet. I am so thankful she or Ben didn't get hurt! She was a tired and hungry little baby!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My classes celebrated St. Patrick's Day the way that any good holiday should be celebrated - with food! We made rainbow cupcakes and they were so cute! The kids had a ball making and eating them. They get excited about anything as long as they get to eat it.

All we did was prepare a box cake according to the directions on the box and divided it into six bowls. Then color the batter in each bowl different colors. I thought it would be neat for the colors to be in the order of the spectrum. Am I the only person that knows about ROY G BIV?? Apparently no one teaches that trick anymore. Anyway, the cupcakes were cute and we put clouds of icing on the top. All we were missing was our pot of gold!

They look tie-died from the top!!

We did make the icing from scratch. I didn't want to be too much of a slacker!!

They turned out pretty cute!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Our Angus the Milk Cow

The animal adventures around this place are never ending! I promise this is the last animal post for a while. Maybe :)

Ben and I ventured out on a cold Sunday evening to find this cutie just born. I was so excited to get close to him while he was clean and white.

Not too long after this, Ben and I had a mud wrestling match with this little fella and a bottle. He is not so white now. It wasn't just mud either.

Unfortunately for his mom (and us) she had mastitis. She wouldn't let the little guy nurse, so we had to intervene and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty. I am a Certified Lactation Counselor and I had lactating experience at my last job, but this was a new experience for me! I milked my first cow and I now know that if my milk consumption relied on my milking skills, I would be getting all of my calcium from sources other than milk. It takes FOREVER.

Lucky for us, two milkings in, our vet remembered to tell us he has this neat little contraption that just makes the milk literally fall out. (sorry for these sketchy pictures - it was dark and i was shooting between metal bars. i'm just glad i made it out alive and camera in one piece)

You place it in, and out it comes!

She felt much better after we emptied her. (This is pre-milking - ouch)

And treated her. (this didn't hurt her either)

It broke my heart to see all of that milk go to waste...

However, she was a lactation queen and before we could get all of the bag empty it was starting to get full again.

This little guy is happy we don't have to milk his mom anymore.

So is this one.

Next up: prolapse. Not really. I was too scarred to take pictures.

Making Jeff Foxworthy Proud

Oh Remy.
She is not an inside dog.

However, if you remember this picture you will remember that she now thinks she is.

It was cold last week so we let her sleep inside for a few nights.

Bad idea. She was reminded that she thinks she should be an inside dog.

Fast forward to this weekend. Beautiful, 60ish degree weather. Perfect day to leave the door open and get some fresh air. I was sitting not too far from here and heard Remy on the porch.

Looks perfectly normal, right?

Wrong.

Just a few minutes later it was eerily quiet so I go to check on her and what do I find?

Remy. Inside.

What? I don't know anything.

This is my rug. I am supposed to be here. It's dirty outside.

There may be a very, very strong possibility that you
just might be a redneck if your dog...

uses your sub-par screen door...

for her very own personal...

not-so-built-in doggy door...

What?

Adventures in Cake decorating

One of my sweet nieces just turned one and we had quite the celebration for her this weekend!

I was honored that her mom asked an amateur like me to make the cake for such a milestone birthday celebration. I always get so nervous when baking cakes, especially for family, because I want them to be perfect and I see all the flaws. I think my sister-in-law was pleased with the way this one turned out!

A smiling bumblebee!

The birthday girl's personal cake.

The big girl birthday chair!

Is this all for me?!?

Mmmm... I think I will!

I think she likes it!

Happy Birthday, sweet girl!!
